Frequently Asked Questions

Life in the house

Everyone is welcome at Cohausing! However, it is true that Cohausers (as we affectionately call them here) tend to be digital nomads or young people at the beginning of their careers between the ages of 25 and 45 years. And more than half of our residents come from countries other than Spain!

All the common areas are located on the ground floor. It is an open design in which you will find a fully equipped kitchen with state-of-the-art appliances, a breakfast bar counter, a spacious dining area, and chill-out area with sofas and a TV to enjoy movie nights together with other residents. In addition to this open space, there are three more areas on the ground floor: the coworking space (or as we call it, the “aquarium” due to the large glass panels), the laundry room equipped with two washer dryer combos, and a guest toilet.

Yes, absolutely! All residents stay for at least one month, so they arrive with a mindset of sharing and coliving, collaborating, and interacting with others. In addition, before moving in, all prospective residents undergo an interview process to ensure that they have a similar profile to the other Cohausers already staying there. As an added layer of security, there are surveillance cameras in all common areas of the house.

You can receive all mail directly to Cohausing without any problem. However, Cohausing is designed for shorter stays (up to 11 months). For this reason, it is not possible to use the address for purposes like registration with the local authorities. The concept at Cohausing is one of regular rotation of residents, enabling a culture of exchange and interaction within the house to germinate, often with people from other parts of the world coming to enjoy the opportunity and share their life experiences.

The ground floor is designed to receive visitors and invite them to share moments with other Cohausers. It is possible in exceptional cases for you to receive them in your room. If you are expecting a visit from a family member or friend for several days or even weeks, you must let us know so we can make an amendment to your contract and adjust the room rate. We are required by law to keep a record of all persons staying overnight in our facilities, and we need to act with absolute transparency and clarity in our operations.

The truth is that we would love to be able to accommodate you in this regard; however, at the moment we cannot accept pets of any kind. We are very sorry about this.

Common areas

All Cohausers have access to the common areas 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They are designed to be a place of communication, exchange, and sharing. The idea is that you will always find someone with whom you can share your experiences. You can cook, eat, work, watch TV, or simply chat with other residents. These are also the spaces where you can receive visitors; they will always be welcome.

The kitchen is fully equipped with all the necessary appliances—in some cases more than one even—such as two ceramic cooktops and three refrigerators (each room is assigned a shelf and there are labels you can use to mark your food). It also has plenty of kitchen utensils and tableware, including dishes and plates, glasses and mugs, and cutlery. What’s more, there is a dishwasher for everyone’s convenience. There are no cooking shifts as the residents are responsible for their own meal planning and cooking. There are only two real requirements: we expect you to leave the kitchen as clean and tidy as you found it when you’re done cooking and we ask that you do not cook in the middle of the night (exceptions can be made). If you wish to leave non-perishable food for other or future Cohausers on your departure, you are welcome to do so.

No. The laundry room is located on the ground floor and is available for all to use, including the studios on the third floor, 24 hours a day. There are two washer dryer combos available for Cohausers to use, including the laundry detergent. There are no special time slots per room. It is on a “first come, first served” basis. As long as a machine isn’t in use, the first person to fill it can use it. When it comes to drying clothes, we have installed clothes horses (drying racks) in the laundry room. There are also a few clothes horses that you can borrow so you can hang your clothing to dry in your room; however, you need to remember to return it to the proper place when you’re done using it.

Affectionately known as the “aquarium,” it is a space designed for several people to work. The rules are similar to a library where you can talk, but remember to always respect the other Cohausers present in the room, as well. It can also serve as a meeting room for residents. It also follows the principle of “first come, first served.” If you need to make phone calls or video calls, please do so in your individual room to respect the tranquil character of the space.

Rooms

Every room is equipped with two single beds measuring 90 cm wide and 190 cm long, except H14 and H24, which have a single and a double bed (measuring 135 cm wide and 190 cm long).

All Cohausers have access to the common areas on the ground floor, because we designed these spaces as a place of exchange and coexistence for all residents.

Half of the rooms at Cohausing have a terrace or balcony. Rooms H12, H14, H22, and H24 feature a small balcony overlooking the street. In addition, rooms H13 and H23, also overlook the street, feature a larger balcony with a small table and chairs or a chaise lounge chair. Finally, room H15 features an interior patio with lots of greenery, a small table, and two chairs.

Unfortunately, no. Technical difficulties and an avant-garde interior design prevent us from installing an elevator. The good thing about it is that the stairs and hallways of the three floors receive natural light through glass block windows, and the Cohausers get some exercise every day.

The services

We have a team of professionals that is responsible for keeping the common areas of Cohausing clean Monday through Friday in the morning. Some people may have heard the phrase “cleaning is good and all, but making less of a mess is better” before. In line with this thought, we encourage our residents to be respectful when using the common areas., “no es más limpio el que más limpia, sino el que menos ensucia”, por ello se espera de nuestros residentes que utilicen las zonas comunes con respeto.

In order to make your stay more pleasant and comfortable, our team cleans each of the rooms and their respective bathrooms every other week. If a resident wishes to clean the room themself or to clean it more thoroughly, Cohausing provides cleaning products and the necessary equipment.

Cohausing offers a room cleaning service on a fortnightly basis. Likewise, we provide clean towels, sheets, and linens fresh from the laundromat at no additional cost to demonstrate our continued commitment to the comfort of Cohausers and the cleanliness at Cohausing. Each resident is welcome to do their own laundry in the laundry room on the ground floor, as well as their towels, linens and sheets in case it’s considered necessary. Cohausing is committed to the environment, and it is our way to show our respect for the planet and reduce our overall footprint in terms of energy and water consumption.

Each of the rooms at Cohausing is equipped with a router featuring Wi-Fi speeds of 200 Mbps, meaning you will have your own private connection. In addition, all rooms also have a fiber optic connection if you would like to use an Ethernet cable to connect to the internet. Thanks to this, you will be able to conveniently work from either your room or the common areas.

The common areas of the house are constantly regulated at temperatures between 20°C and 25°C (68°F and 77°F), and each room has its own air conditioning unit. You can regulate the temperature in your room between 20°C and 25°C (68°F and 77°F) using a thermostat, so that each Cohauser can feel comfortable in their own room.

However, we would like to point out that the biggest expense (especially in summer) is the air conditioning, and you don’t have to worry about it.

We organize a get-together party every 2-3 months. In the past, we tried to arrange some day-trips and activities, but unfortunately didn’t work as well as we hoped. It was very challenging to fit everybody’s schedule and wishes, so at some point the cohausers community started organizing themselves. The good news is that since then, the cohausers got much empowered and constantly organize a bunch of activities:
  • Outdoors: Regular trips around the Valencia Region (mostly during weekends), beach volleyball trainings (not matter level of expertise), hiking, traditional Valencian festivities celebrations, football matches (VCF)…
  • Indoors: Trivia evenings, Comedy Shows. Cinema Evenings, Climbing, Thematic Brunches and Dinners (by country of origin),
And YES, nightlife is a MUST: Restaurants, parties, concerts, bars and clubs are definitely on their activities list. Even some relaxed evenings playing Jenga or UNO downstairs can be  lots of fun.
